Off to a conference next week so working to get everything out this week.  Plus, the race results section would be too long with both St. Luke’s and Broad Street. 

Note to Broad Street Runners: The Northeast Extension of the PA(tronage and Corruption) Turnpike will be closed from midnight to 5:00AM on Sunday.  You would be better than off taking 309 south or even better just hopping on SEPTA.

Going Long

The number of marathons has exploded in recent years as have half marathons.  We’ve seen adventure/Spartan/mud runs.  Now it looks like more and more runners are going the ultra route.  That means more and more roadies are being sucked into the world of trail dogs.   Anyone who has run trials knows that it’s a different game than the roads and requires one to forget times and PRs and paces, especially when you’re going up and down.  Let’s hope it’s a long term change and we get to the point that runners are unhappy when there’s no mud, rocks, roots or steep climbs up or down.

Security

After the events in Boston, it’s guaranteed that security is being tightened at races around the country.  I’ve heard that security was tight at St. Luke’s and that the race was almost stopped when a husband walked away from the knapsack with his wife’s change of clothes.  I’d be interested in hearing from both St. Luke’s and Broad Street runners about what differences they noticed in the level of security on the course between this year and past races.

Climb some hills on May 4 at either of our two races.  Both are well run festive affairs which is good because each challenges you in the back end of the race.
