New Member, A Week Off, Group-On, Thanks DK, Is it Hot?

New Member
Welcome to Allison landry.  Allison tells us, "I am a newbie to the long distance running scene. I am originally from Vermont so I grew up outdoors and have an overall passion for being active. During high school I started cross-country running since it was more appealing than running around a track. My average times for 5ks ranged between 24 and 25 minutes. In college I participated in five annual 5k races throughout the year and usually trained on a treadmill. Within the last year, I have increased my mileage to 8-10 miles five days a week and started running outside more often. I have decreased my race time and my last 5k in May I ran in 23:30. I would like to complete my first half marathon by the fall of 2011. In addition, I would like to complete a full marathon before 2012.  I am looking forward to becoming apart of the running community within the area!"

Next Week
I'll be at a tradeshow in Palm Desert CA next week.  When not learning or schmoozing, I'll be doing my own version of Badwater (running 140 miles in the desert is less bad water than drinking Coors Light).  The net-net is that we both get a week off from each other.

Next Group Run?
Let's do Peace Valley next.  The lake loop is ~6 miles.  The ambitious can come early and do more, slackers can do something less.  Day choices are July 9 (the favorite so far) or July 2.  Leave a comment on this site or e-mail me at bill.tuszynski@gmail.com   Either way, we'll start at 9:00 instead of 10:00 to beat the heat.  Details to follow.

Thanks Don
Here are two links from Dan Kuntzmann.  The first tells how strenuous exercise helps us old folks keep our minds intact:

Thanks for keeping us informed.

Beating the Heat
Remember way back in January when you swore you would never complain about heat?  Well, time to pay the piper.  Just how do you handle hot weather running?  do you head out at 0-dark-30:  Carry a camelpack?  Wear the minimum legal limit?  Or do you just ignore it and head out in the maximum heat?  Weigh in on the subject the same way as above.

Club Races
The Main Street Mile is about the fastest race you can do.  So get a PR there and  head over to the Average Jane & Joe Tri in quakertown.

Visit the club website, www.buxmontrunning.com and check out the "Athlete Profile" page featuring short self-written bios of club members. That I'm on there proves you don't have to be a good athlete to be on the page! Send yours to either me or Tom Daugherty. Tom actually does the work in his function as webmeister.
