Screwed Again
Once again, another big race goes corporate at the expense of the non-elite runner who ultimately pays for the event. This time it's the New York Marathon which is dropping the bag drop where runners can have their bags brought from the start to the finish. Instead of an on-line petition to bring it back, it would be better for runners to stop acting like sheep and signing up for these races no matter how badly they're treated. It may be a fantasy of mine but I can't think of a happier outcome than to have one of these big races like Boston, New York or any Rock And Roll race not sell out and struggle for entrants because the average runner has gotten fed up with being treated like dirt.
Amazing Albert
Anyone who has participated in races out towards Reading has seen the amazing Albert Booth in action. At age 92, Albert has an age group all to himself and still runs respectable time, most recently 51:44 for the Run 4 Sam 4 miler. It was a touching ceremony at the 2009 Oley Valley 5K when the Pagoda Pacers club awarded Albert a lifetime pass to all of their club races for his 90th birthday.
A Bit Too Late
Here are three recent articles telling us about exercising in hot humid conditions and offering insights about running on the beach. I'm not sure why these did not appear in May or June when they may have helped up prepare for summer. now we all have to remember these for at least nine months. I don't know about the rest, but now that I'm over 55, I have trouble remembering things for nine minutes, let along nine months. With respect to the article about running in sand, I feel like I've been running in quicksand for the last several years even when I'm on the road.

Cooling Off
After a brutal summer, it's nice to have cooler temperatures and lower humidity. My expectation is that everyone will be much faster over the next two months as you build on your summer training. Of course, I don't have to put up so I should shut up. It won't be long before it's below freezing and sleeting and we find out who isn't a weather weenie.
Club Races
A trail double header, one significantly less painful than the other followed by one of my favorite trail runs in Birdsboro on the 9th. Finishing the Hit the Hay with a stream crossing so that you're cleaned up at the end is a nice touch.
